WWT – Brandon Marsh.
Species seen 35.
After all the snow over the last few days I decided to take a winter’s afternoon look around Brandon Marsh. The snow had stopped and the temperature was cold, however not as cold as during the week! All the pools were frozen over with the exception of East Marsh Pool, which was frozen but for the centre, which looked as though there was an oval of unfrozen water. Most of the birds, not surprising, were standing one legged around the perimeter with just a few actually on the open water.
Birds seen here were Shelduck, Widgeon, Snipe, Teal, Gadwall, Shoveler, Tufted Duck, Mallard, Yellow Legged Gull, Black Headed Gull, Herring Gull, Coot, Mute Swan, Grey Heron, Greylag and Canada Geese and a solitary Pied Wagtail running at times very rapidly along the ice’s edge.
Away from the pools were, Tree Creeper, Goldcrest, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Long Tailed Tit, Robin, Pheasant, Reed Bunting, Dunnock, Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Blackbird, Fieldfare, Starling, Carrion Crow, Jackdaw, Jay, and Magpie.
As usual the Brandon Marsh Robins were extremely friendly and my pot of dried meal worms provided a welcome morsel to quite a few.
